Regarding the 'Zangezur Corridor', Armenia Does Not Even Have the Resources to Say 'No': Iranologist

Our authorities declare that Azerbaijan's territorial integrity also includes enclaves. Two such enclaves are situated on our two international highways. This was stated in an interview with NEWS.am by Iranologist Harout Arakelyan.

“In the early days of Armenia's independence, when Tigranashen became Armenian, we were able to have a route to Syunik and Artsakh to transport military equipment. If we imagine for a moment that Tigranashen becomes Azerbaijani, we will not have a highway that Iran hopes to use for cargo transport to Europe. News reports are announcing a $250 billion trading agreement. That $250 billion equals approximately one million containers. Where should that one million containers pass, via the Tatev road? That is impossible. I have named this a ‘media orgasm,’ where they tell the people, ‘Look, look, something important is happening,’ but something else is happening underneath,” he stated.

The Iranologist pointed out that Iran sees a significant problem in the issue of handing over the enclaves to Azerbaijan. “Months ago, the Iranian group operating in Azerbaijan issued a statement, and I wrote at that time that it was a warning to Armenia, stating that do not let it be the case that, as a result of legal solutions, you give parts of your territory to Azerbaijan, after which we, as Iran, will no longer be able to provide any support. That was 8-9 months ago, and today we see that we are handing over those territories ourselves,” he noted.

Commenting on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement that Iran is the obstacle in the issue of the ‘Zangezur Corridor,’ Harout Arakelyan said that in reality, Armenia today does not even have the resources to say ‘no.’
