VIDEO: Female Shot-Putter Runs 100 Meters in Place of Injured Runner
A female shot-putter has run 100 meters in place of an injured runner at the European Games taking place in Poland. In the women's 100m final, Belgian shot-put champion Jolien Boumkwo participated voluntarily after the original runner was injured just before the start.
The shot-putter took part in the race to prevent potential disqualification of the national team due to the absence of a runner, as there were no other runners available in the team.
Although Boumkwo was unable to win the race, she completed the entire distance without knocking down any of the barriers that would have disqualified her. In doing so, she saved the national team from a possible disqualification.
