Pentagon Discovers $6 Billion Error in Weapons Supply Calculations for Ukraine
The United States has overestimated the value of weapons sent to Ukraine over the past two years by $6.2 billion, creating a surplus that will be spent on future arms supplies. This was reported by Rbc.ru, citing the Associated Press.
A detailed analysis of the accounting error has revealed that when calculating equipment removed from Pentagon stockpiles, the replacement cost of the inventory was taken into account rather than the actual value of the weapons. This financial year, miscalculations amounted to $3.6 billion, while in September of last year, they reached $2.6 billion.
“It will simply return to the fund we allocated for the further removal of weapons from Pentagon stockpiles and their transfer to Ukraine,” officials in the department explained.
In mid-June, the Pentagon stated that since the start of military operations, it has provided approximately $40 billion in support to Ukraine's security, while the new assessment indicates that the actual U.S. assistance stands at about $34 billion, the agency reports.
