Xi Jinping-Anthony Blinken Meeting Kicks Off in Beijing
For the first time since 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken have met in Beijing. “The Chinese side has clearly expressed its position, and both sides (i.e., China and the U.S.) have agreed to adhere to the common understanding reached between President Biden and myself in Bali,” Xi stated, referring to the meeting held during the G20 summit last November with Biden.
The Chinese president also announced that both sides “have made progress and reached agreements on a number of specific issues, which is very positive.” Before meeting with Xi Jinping, Antony Blinken also met with Wang Yi, the head of the Office of Foreign Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Additionally, yesterday he had a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang.
