Mali Demands Immediate Withdrawal of UN Mission from the Country
Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop demanded on Friday from the UN Security Council the withdrawal of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
At the same time, Diop rejected all options for altering the mission's mandate proposed by the UN Secretary-General, the media reports.
The Malian minister pointed out the 'failure' of MINUSMA in addressing security issues in his country. According to RFI, Diop's statement surprised some diplomats gathered to discuss the extension of the UN mission's mandate. With his démarche, the African minister has put an end to this exchange of ideas, the radio station reports.
