‘Gnuni Varduik’ Murdered for Revenge: Details from the Investigative Committee

A 25-year-old man suspected in the murder of 35-year-old Varazdat Gasparyan, known as ‘Gnuni Varduik’ for his criminal history, has been detained. This was reported by the Armenian Investigative Committee.

It was previously reported that on June 6, at 10:07 PM, the body of Varazdat Gasparyan was discovered at 49/2 Baghramyan Avenue, with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to the collected evidence, the young man committed the murder in order to take revenge for the murder of a friend that occurred several years ago. The investigation has also revealed that the 25-year-old arrived at the location of Varazdat Gasparyan, near a beauty salon located at the intersection of Jaym Bryce Street and Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan, driving a taxi marked ‘Opel Astra’ and awaited his arrival.

“Around 10:00 PM, when Varazdat Gasparyan exited the mentioned beauty salon, the 25-year-old unexpectedly approached him and fired a shot from an illegally obtained 7.62mm (7.62x25) caliber pistol towards his face, causing fatal injuries,” the statement noted.

Immediately after the murder, the young man fled the scene. He was discovered and arrested on June 13.

The Investigative Committee also reported that during the preliminary investigation, a scene examination was conducted and a shell casing was discovered and seized. Several individuals have been interrogated, and forensic and autopsy examinations have been ordered.

The 25-year-old has been charged with murder and illegal acquisition and possession of firearms. It is noteworthy that, according to media reports, Varazdat Gasparyan was implicated as a defendant in a criminal case involving Robert Sukiasyan, the brother of Civil Contract faction member Khachatur Sukiasyan.
