What Are the Three Superpowers According to the US Joint Chiefs of Staff
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces (USAF), General Mark Milley, has announced the existence of at least three superpowers on the modern political map of the world: the United States, China, and Russia.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that we are indeed in a multipolar international environment where there are at least three superpowers—the US, China, and Russia,” he said on Thursday while addressing graduates at the National Defense University.
In this context, Milley argued that the world will face “very serious challenges and crises in the coming decades.” He explained that during the Cold War, there were two superpowers involved in the confrontation, but after the collapse of the USSR, the US remained the sole superpower for 10-15 years.
“Three superpowers are much more complex than two superpowers,” said the Chief of Staff of the US Armed Forces. Milley also admitted that the situation is complicated by the fact that several countries are beginning to play increasingly important roles in their regions, and in the future, these states may aspire to superpower status. He did not mention the names of these countries.
