After Kakhovka HPP Destruction, 1 Village is Submerged: Missing Persons Reported
During the ongoing war in Ukraine, at least 7 individuals have gone missing in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Oblast, which has partially come under the control of the Russian Federation, following the collapse of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and the resultant uncontrolled release of water from the reservoir. This information was reported by ТАСС.
The head of the city administration, Vladimir Leontyev, noted regarding the number of missing individuals that there are confirmed reports about 7 people.
According to ТАСС, following the collapse of the Kakhovka HPP dam, the water level in Nova Kakhovka has reached 12 meters, inundating 14 settlements. Another report indicates that the village of Korsunka, located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, has been completely submerged.
“The village of Korsunka is entirely underwater, the settlements of Dnemytrivka, Krinki, and Kazachyi Lager are flooded up to the rooftops,” said Mayor Vladimir Leontyev.
Recall that on June 6, the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in Kherson Oblast collapsed. Ukraine and Russia blame each other for the shelling of the HPP.
The floodwaters from the damaged Kakhovka HPP have inundated areas in the Kherson region. As a result of the HPP's destruction, the water level of the Dnipro River has risen. Footage reportedly filmed in the Ostrov area of Kherson shows ducks waddling through the streets.
