Photograph: Tatoyan Publishes Historical Facts About Tigranashen
Former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, has published historical facts about Tigranashen. He stated, "The village did not have the status of an 'enclave'; it is a historic Armenian village and originally constituted a part not only of the First Republic of Armenia but also of Soviet Armenia. The village was known as Kark'e (Qarqi is the Azerbaijani name)."
"In the area adjacent to Tigranashen, deep into Nakhchivan, there is another Armenian village—historical Genut village, named after the evergreen tree, which also comprised part of Soviet Armenia. Over the years, the village was divided into two parts due to the settlement of the Turkish Jafarlu clan, receiving the names Jafarlu and Gyunut. For example, in the 1926 map of the Armenian SSR, the village is part of Armenia. Just because a locality is partially populated by representatives of a certain nation does not automatically imply that the said territory belongs to the state representing that nation. In the same way, historical Armenian villages in Tavush, such as Voskepar, which both belonged to the Ijevan region of Barana during 1918-1920 and in the Soviet period, must be considered.”
"Those who raise 'enclave' issues—can they say what will happen to our compatriots who have lived and worked on their ancestral land for centuries? Have they thought about their property, efforts, life, and safety? What will happen to the security of our country, and the communities? The distortion of historical facts, a mechanical attitude towards the security of the Homeland, the blatant disregard for people's rights and state security, and an approach that evidently lacks professionalism, have deprived us of the legal grounds to protect the rights and interests of our country and its citizens for decades, jeopardizing security. Behind every part of our Motherland lies a human fate, a family home, a family."
