NATO Naval Exercises Kick Off in Estonia
NATO's extensive naval exercises, Baltops 23, officially commenced in Estonia on Saturday. More than 30 naval vessels from the alliance are participating in this significant event, as reported by the press service of the Estonian Defense Forces.
The commander of the Estonian Navy stated that this year's Baltops exercises will be historic since Estonia has never hosted such a large number of NATO ships before. "More than 30 naval vessels from NATO and partner countries have arrived in Estonia for the exercises. This year's participants include representatives from the USA, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, and Norway," he noted.
Baltops is an annual international exercise that has been conducted since 1972. The drills aim to enhance the capabilities of the participating countries in conducting land, air, and sea operations in the Baltic Sea region. The U.S. Navy's Sixth Fleet is responsible for organizing the exercises.
