Why No Measures or Legal Regulations Have Been Established for Russians Arriving in Georgia: Zurabishvili

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, criticized the authorities during her speech at the Independence Day celebration in Tbilisi for resuming direct air flights with Russia and pointed out that legal restrictions have not yet been imposed on the influx of Russians.

“The independence that we celebrate today means protection governed by rules and laws. This is the state’s approach that should be applied to everyone. Thus, it is incomprehensible why no measures or legal regulations have been established concerning the Russian nationals arriving in large numbers in Georgia, particularly in sectors such as healthcare and education,” Zurabishvili stated.

According to Zurabishvili, it has also become unclear regarding Georgia's foreign policy, which, in her opinion, is increasingly isolating from European prospects.

“There is no nation that is not afraid of war... But escalating fear in a country with such a history of invasions and conquests cannot be used as a formula for successful governance... It is incomprehensible and insulting when we today calculate how many millions the ‘gift’ of flights will bring us. Has our dignity been sold for 200 or 300 million?” the president remarked.
