Biden Becomes the Second Sitting U.S. President to Visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

U.S. President Joe Biden has become the second sitting president to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The park is located in the former Nakajima district of Hiroshima Prefecture and was completely destroyed following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by the U.S. in 1945. The first sitting president to visit the park was Barack Obama in 2016, making Biden the second to do so.

It is noteworthy that Biden will participate in wreath-laying, tree-planting ceremonies, and will visit the Peace Museum alongside leaders of the G7. The U.S. president arrived in Japan on May 18 to attend the G7 summit. He is accompanied by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The G7 summit will take place in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21.
