Has Armenia Already Given Consent to Recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as Part of Azerbaijan? The Foreign Ministry Does Not Respond Directly
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is avoiding a direct answer to the question of whether the issue of recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan is being discussed in Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations, and whether Armenia has already given its consent.
Radio Liberty sent an inquiry to the Foreign Ministry to clarify whether Prime Minister Pashinyan's statement means that the option of recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan is on the table in negotiations, and whether Armenia has given its consent. If so, how does the official Yerevan envision the protection of the rights and security of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh as it has been declared multiple times at the highest level by the Prime Minister that Azerbaijan's goal is the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Armenians in Artsakh?
The Foreign Ministry responded: "The Republic of Armenia has repeatedly expressed its position that for Armenia it is essential to discuss the guarantees of the rights and security of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh with the international community's visible involvement, in negotiations between Baku and Stepanakert. Addressing the rights and security issues of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh is of paramount importance for establishing lasting peace and stability in the region."
