Fire in Beijing Hospital: Casualties and Injuries Reported

At least 21 people have died, and the number of injured has reached double digits due to a fire that broke out in one of Beijing's hospitals, reported the Beijing Daily.

The incident occurred on April 18 around 1 PM in the Fengtai district, located southwest of the city center.

According to preliminary reports, the fire ignited on the seventh or eighth floor of the building, with dense smoke instantly filling the corridors, blocking escape routes for patients and staff.

Footage taken from the scene shows people attempting to escape from the windows but falling from significant heights.

Firefighters took about half an hour to extinguish the blaze. During the search of the area, the bodies of 21 people were discovered, all of whom are believed to have been poisoned by combustion products.

More than 70 patients were evacuated from the building and relocated to a nearby wing of the institution.

The causes of the incident are still under investigation.
