Merry Quant, Creator of Mini Skirts, Passes Away
British designer and fashion modeler Mary Quant has passed away at the age of 93. Her family informed the BBC of her death. “Mary Quant died peacefully this morning at her home in Surrey, England,” her relatives told reporters.
Quant is credited with popularizing the mini skirt. She shortened skirts and created a collection of short dresses in 1962.
Her family stated that she was “one of the internationally recognized designers of the 20th century and a prominent innovator.” Thanks to Mary Quant, fashion embraced body-hugging multicolored trousers, suede garments, high-platform shoes, simple bob cuts, and vibrant makeup.
