Vucic Announces Agreement With Kosovo Prime Minister
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced that he has reached an agreement on several points of the settlement plan proposed by the West with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The negotiations between Vucic and Kurti in the city of Ohrid, North Macedonia, lasted for 12 hours. The Serbian president called them important, but added that he 'has signed nothing' and that it was not 'day X', reports the Serbian agency Evening News.
According to Vucic, the agreements reached during the meeting lay the groundwork for further negotiations between the parties. He also expressed confidence that the EU will appreciate the efforts of the Serbian authorities to resolve the long-standing conflict with Kosovo, which would assist the country in its European integration.
'If we want to continue on the European path, then our progress will be assessed,' emphasized the Serbian president.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, who was a mediator in the Ohrid talks, confirmed: 'We have an agreement.' The parties have agreed on an Executive Annex of the Agreement regarding the normalization of relations, he wrote on Twitter. However, he simultaneously emphasized that many disagreements still exist between Serbia and Kosovo, and reaching a comprehensive agreement will require further work, reports DW.
