The Risk of New Escalation by Azerbaijan Remains High, Says Ararat Mirzoyan
The risk of new escalation by Azerbaijan remains high. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during his speech at the launch ceremony of the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Armenia for 2023-2026 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We live in a region filled with numerous security threats. For more than two months, a humanitarian crisis has been ongoing in Nagorno-Karabakh due to the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan,” noted Mirzoyan.
Azerbaijan continues to hold Armenian prisoners of war and civilians hostage, and the fate of many missing persons and those forcibly disappeared remains unclear, the foreign minister emphasized.
According to him, as a result of the aggressions committed in May and November 2021, as well as in September 2022, the sovereign territories of Armenia have fallen under Azerbaijani occupation.
