EU Sends Rescue Team to Turkey
The European Union has dispatched a rescue team to Turkey following the earthquake that struck in the morning of January 6. This was announced by EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič.
“We have activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism after the earthquake in Turkey this morning. The EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre is coordinating the dispatch of rescue teams from Europe. Teams from the Netherlands and Romania are already on their way,” he stated.
It is noted that as a result of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the Pazarcık region of Kahramanmaraş province in southeastern Turkey at 06:30 AM on February 6, 284 people have lost their lives and 2,323 have been injured across seven provinces in the country.
