Opening of the Zangezur Corridor is Inevitable, Regardless of Armenia's Wishes, Says Aliyev
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has assured that the opening of the corridor is a strategic project for Azerbaijan. “Today, Armenia is effectively avoiding the fulfillment of its obligations regarding this corridor,” stated Aliyev, noting that regardless of whether Armenia wants the corridor to be operational, it will happen.
Azerbaijan has kept the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia and the outside world, the Lachin Corridor, closed since December 12, 2022. Due to the road block, 1,100 people, including 270 children, have been unable to return from Armenia to Artsakh. This closure has infringed upon rights to free movement, minimum living standards, access to medical care, education, and other rights.
