Macron Hopes Sweden and Finland Will Join NATO as Soon as Possible
French President Emmanuel Macron hopes that Finland and Sweden will be able to join NATO as soon as possible. Macron is hosting Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Paris on Tuesday.
"We will discuss Sweden's accession to NATO, which I want to happen as soon as possible, as well as Finland's entry into the alliance. In this regard, you can count on France's solidarity and support," said Macron ahead of negotiations with his Swedish counterpart.
On May 18, Finland and Sweden submitted their applications to join NATO amid the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Currently, the applications from Sweden and Finland have not been ratified by only two out of 30 countries, Hungary and Turkey.
