Azerbaijan-Armenia Interstate Highway Remains Closed Both Ways: Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs

The interstate highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia remains closed in both directions. This information was reported by the police of the Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It is emphasized that the Azerbaijani side is grossly violating the norms stipulated by international humanitarian conventions, once again infringing on the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Armenian population in Artsakh.

"At this moment, hundreds of citizens are stranded on the Lisagor-Shushi and Stepanakert-Shushi roads, which have been closed since 10:30 AM this morning, citing environmental reasons," the statement said.

It is noteworthy that days ago, the Azerbaijani side approached the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in the Republic of Artsakh, requesting permission to visit the Drmbon and Kashen mines.

Following that, on December 3, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothing had closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway under the pretext of environmental reasons at the intersection near Shushi-Karin Tagh. Russian peacekeepers were informed about the incident.

After over three hours of negotiations with the Azerbaijani side and with their mediation, the only highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia was reopened in both directions.

Currently, however, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothing has again closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia, again citing environmental concerns.
