Tense Situation at Armenia-Azerbaijan Border, Says Zas
The trends regarding the unfolding situation in the Caucasus region are instilling cautious optimism, stated CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas during a broadcast on the Belarusian ONT television channel. According to 'Azatutyun', he remarked:
"Special attention was paid (at the CSTO summit in Yerevan) to the situation developing both on a global scale and within the CSTO's area of responsibility. If we look at the situation prevailing in the Caucasus region broadly, the trends currently forming there instill cautious optimism, with all participants focusing on achieving peace in this region, signing peace agreements, legally registering existing borders, and unblocking transport connections. The countries of this region are moving along this path," Zas said.
On the other hand, he noted that the situation is very grave. "Primarily, at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, clashes occur almost daily; the situation is complex," the CSTO Secretary General emphasized.
It should be noted that Stanislav Zas will be replaced in the position of CSTO Secretary General by the former ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia, Imangali Tasmagambetov, in 2023.
