VIDEO: Azerbaijan Wants Extraterritorial Corridor, Considers Half of Armenia as Azerbaijani, Says Pashinyan at UN
Azerbaijan violates the ceasefire every day, and the inadequate response from security organizations may lead to a new escalation. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his speech at the UN.
Baku is using the topics of a peace treaty with Armenia, demarcation, and opening regional communications to present new demands to Armenia. One of the most important themes of the peace agreement is the mutual recognition of territorial integrity between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have already stated that we are ready to take this step, but Azerbaijan has not responded in the same way. On the contrary, Baku has actively declared that all of southern and eastern Armenia, even the capital Yerevan, is Azerbaijani land.
According to Pashinyan, if Baku recognized the territorial integrity of internationally recognized Armenian territory of 29,800 square kilometers, a peace treaty could be signed. Otherwise, Azerbaijan will提出 new territorial demands and carry out occupation actions. Since last year, it has occupied 40 square kilometers of territory.
Armenia is ready to open communications, but Baku wants an extraterritorial corridor. This status is not provided for in the November 9, 2020 statement. “The only corridor mentioned in that document is the Lachin corridor,” he said.
