US Sees Sufficient Evidence Azerbaijan Shelling Armenian Territory: State Department
The United States has seen sufficient evidence that Azerbaijan is shelling Armenian territory. This was stated by U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price during a daily press briefing with reporters.
“As we have said, Secretary Blinken's statement called on President Aliyev of Azerbaijan to immediately cease military operations, to stop the involvement of military force in the resolution of important issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan... We have seen significant evidence that Azerbaijan is shelling Armenian territory and causing substantial damage to Armenian infrastructure. However, the most important thing for us is that both sides commit to halting military operations and to de-escalation in a broader context,” Price noted.
It is worth mentioning that Azerbaijani armed forces launched an attack along the state border of the Republic of Armenia around midnight on September 12-13, conducting military operations in the directions of Syunik, Vayots Dzor, and Gegharkunik regions.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that positions located in Sotk, Vardenis, Goris, Kapan, Artanish, and Ishkhanasar were subjected to shelling. Strikes have also been directed at civilian infrastructure. Intense operations continued throughout the night. Preliminary data indicates that there are 49 casualties on the Armenian side. The spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Aram Torosyan, stated during an evening briefing that the situation along certain sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border remains tense as of 6:00 PM. According to Torosyan, data regarding Armenian casualties is being verified.
