Artsakh Parliament Members Submit Request to Change Arzumanyan's Detention
The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has received a request from Artsakh Parliament members to review the detention of former commander Mikael Arzumanyan and replace it with a measure not involving imprisonment. This was reported in an interview with 'Factinfo' by the Prosecutor General's Office.
It is noteworthy that Mikael Arzumanyan was detained within the framework of an ongoing investigation by the Investigative Committee. He is accused of having 'surrendered' Shushi; specifically, according to the statement released by the Investigative Committee, the lieutenant general exhibited negligence in his official duties during the organization of defense in Shushi and surrounding areas from October 30 to November 9, 2020, failing to adequately fulfill them, which has led to severe consequences. Furthermore, Arzumanyan's charges have been supplemented by his giving a 'retreat' order to the personnel who liberated the 'Arega' height and surrounding combat positions.
He was arrested while on his way from Artsakh to Armenia. It is important to note that Mikael Arzumanyan personally participated in the liberation of Shushi during the first Artsakh war.
