Armenian Embassy in Germany Clarifies Situation Regarding Genocide Memorial in Cologne
The Armenian Embassy in Germany has clarified the situation surrounding the Armenian Genocide Memorial in the city of Cologne. The memorial is located on the left bank of the Hohenzollern Bridge and was installed on April 15, 2018, by the initiative "Remember the Genocide" (Initiative Völkermord erinnern) along with several individual citizens.
The embassy states that the memorial was removed just four days after its installation (on April 19, 2018) due to a lack of permit, prompting a legal dispute. "Each year, during the period around April 24, the memorial is installed and then dismantled on the grounds of missing permits, which understandably becomes a source of frustration for many of our compatriots and a subject of legal disputes with local authorities. The Armenian Embassy is in direct contact with the initiators of the project and other concerned parties and will soon make efforts to facilitate a mutually acceptable resolution to the situation," the statement reads.
