Marijuana Acquired via Telegram Set for Distribution in Various Locations of Yerevan
Criminal investigators in Erebuni concluded a series of operational measures on March 18th. At 21:20, they detained two young men, aged 28 and 25, on David Bek Street in Yerevan. They are suspected of possessing, distributing, and using narcotics, according to the Armenian Police.
During a personal search of the 28-year-old, officers discovered seven packages containing a substance resembling marijuana. Four plastic sticks and similar substances were also found during the search of the 25-year-old. According to their statements, they had acquired the marijuana through Telegram and planned to distribute it in various locations around the city. Further investigations revealed that the detainees had already managed to deliver numerous packages to different places. The locations of stash sites containing more than 110 grams of the total weight of the packages are being verified.
On the same day, a criminal case was initiated regarding the incident, as a result of which law enforcement officers discovered a package containing 46 grams of a marijuana-like substance addressed to the young men on Gurjyan Street in Yerevan. In an apartment on Hasratyan Street, where the 25-year-old reportedly lived, two packages weighing over 40 grams containing a similar substance were found and seized.
Based on the information obtained, Erebuni criminal investigators set up surveillance on Gurjyan Street. On March 19th, at 11:00, they spotted a suspicious individual. A 26-year-old resident of Yerevan, driving a BMW, was taken to the Erebuni Police Department, where a personal search revealed a substance resembling marijuana. His mobile phones were examined, and information regarding drug distribution was found in the Telegram application.
Erebuni’s criminal detectives, in collaboration with the territorial investigative body and prosecutors, obtained factual data indicating that the detainee was renting apartments in Yerevan to cultivate cannabis for drug production. Subsequent measures also led to the identification of the cannabis grower.
By court decision, all three have been arrested, while the cannabis grower was released on signature. Forensic examinations have been appointed. The activities of the criminal investigators continue.
