Australia's Sanctions Against Russia

Australia is imposing economic sanctions against Russia. This is due to Moscow's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced this.

“Australia will also apply targeted sanctions against eight Russians. They will be banned from entering Australia and entering into any financial transactions related to Australian entities and organizations,” The Australian quotes Morrison's words.

“The restrictive measures will also affect Russian banks,” said the Australian Prime Minister.

Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, called the new Western sanctions against Russia illegitimate. The diplomat noted that Moscow has long understood that restrictions are the West's only tool against the Russian Federation to restrain its development.
