EU, NATO, and US Leaders Urge Immediate De-escalation of Tensions Around Ukraine

Leaders from the EU, NATO, and the United States held a phone conversation on Friday evening, amid what they described as "alarming messages," calling for an immediate de-escalation of tensions surrounding Ukraine. This was reported by Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, according to TASS.

“During the phone call, the recent events concerning Russia and Ukraine were discussed. A call was made for an immediate de-escalation of the situation in light of alarming messages. The EU supports a diplomatic path and is united in its support for Ukraine,” Michel wrote on Twitter.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also informed about the phone call. “It was a good conversation with Joe Biden and transatlantic leaders regarding the ongoing security crisis in and around Ukraine,” he stated.

“We continue our diplomatic efforts and agree that any aggression by Russia will have serious consequences,” assured the NATO Secretary General.

The situation around Ukraine will be the main topic of discussion at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the 27 EU countries. The meeting is set to take place on February 21 in Brussels, where European ministers will discuss the topic with their Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba.
