Constitutional Court Postpones Examination of Alen Simonian's Election Question
The Constitutional Court postponed the examination of the constitutionality of the election of National Assembly President Alen Simonian until April 5. The request for postponement was made by the head of the legal department of the National Assembly, Meri Mosinyan, asking for time to prepare the response.
It should be noted that last week the Constitutional Court decided to consider the application of two factions in an oral procedure rather than in writing, which was quite unusual. The opposition's application submitted to the Constitutional Court demands the annulment of Simonian's election to the position of National Assembly President, citing that unequal conditions were created, as their candidates, Artur Sargsyan and Mkhitar Zakaryan, were in custody and unable to participate in the election.
