“We Will Continue to Pollute the Environment at Elite Prices”: Karen Hekimyan
“Human Rights Defender” Karen Hekimyan's statement reads:
“Many countries around the world are imposing restrictions on the use of polyethylene bags. Armenia is one of them. Many countries have viable alternatives to polyethylene bags; Armenia does not.
The only action taken by Armenia regarding polyethylene bags has been to raise their prices. As a result, in our country, in the absence of alternatives to polyethylene bags, their use will continue, but they will be consumed at significantly higher prices. This means that nothing will change except for the price. We will continue to pollute the environment at elite prices.
PS: Polyethylene is derived from naphtha. Armenia has entered an era of “friendship” with a naphtha-producing and naphtha-processing state. Naturally, “friendship” implies that we are to purchase “friendly” polyethylene at a high price.”
