The First Shipment of Lethal Weapons from the U.S. Has Arrived in Ukraine
The first shipment of $200 million in military aid allocated by the U.S. has arrived in Ukraine. This was reported on Twitter by the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. The decision to provide an additional $200 million in aid was made by U.S. President Joe Biden in December.
The shipment arrived this morning at Kyiv's Boryspil Airport and includes approximately 91,000 kilograms of lethal weapons. The embassy stated that this assistance demonstrates the U.S.'s strong commitment to Ukraine's sovereign right to self-defense.
It is noted that last year, the U.S. provided over $650 million in assistance to Ukraine, including the aforementioned aid package, totaling $2.7 billion since 2014. The U.S. intends to continue supporting the Ukrainian armed forces in their efforts to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russian aggression.
