Drones Fly Over Nuclear Power Plants in Sweden
Swedish authorities are investigating how unidentified drones flew over the country’s two nuclear power plants, Forsmark and Oskarshamn, on Friday evening. On the same day, Sweden announced it was sending additional military units to Gotland Island. This decision comes against the backdrop of the deteriorating relations between Russia and Ukraine and the increased activity of Russian warships in the Baltic Sea.
Swedish police confirmed on Saturday that the drones were spotted directly above the country’s two nuclear facilities, reportedly flying over protected areas. An official representative of the country’s law enforcement called the incident extremely serious.
Reports indicate that authorities immediately deployed patrol vehicles, helicopters, and their own drones to the sites. The police are also investigating reports that a drone flew over another nuclear facility, the country’s largest nuclear power plant, Ringhals.
On Friday, Swedish authorities sent additional units of the armed forces to Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea.
