New Year's Celebrations Canceled in Paris
The authorities in Paris have canceled the New Year’s events scheduled for December 31 on the Champs-Élysées, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“The celebrations planned for the evening of December 31 on the Champs-Élysées were canceled following government announcements and recommendations from health authorities,” the statement read.
The city hall announced that the concert and traditional fireworks show will also be canceled.
On Friday, the Prime Minister of France urged citizens to avoid mass gatherings during the holiday season due to the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. He noted that the consumption of alcohol in public places will be prohibited on the night of December 31 to January 1, and local authorities will be encouraged to “refuse to organize gatherings, fireworks, and concerts.”
