Armenia Alliance Issues Statement
The Armenia Alliance has issued a statement, stating:
“Narek Mantashyan, a member of the Armenia Alliance, has become yet another victim of illegal detention. The crisis of justice in Armenia has long been an established fact. The authorities' all-out assault on the independence of the courts has clearly yielded its results. Law enforcement has shown no resistance in avoiding violations in politically charged cases. The detention of anyone who expresses political dissent or operates from an opposition stance has become the only tool for the authorities. This was once again glaringly evident after the local government elections.
Despite the serious challenges at hand, the sole arsenal being utilized by this government is detention, which is sanctioned by the courts in over 90% of instances. We call the attention of the Human Rights Defender and international organizations to the violations and abuses of personal freedom of such magnitude.”
