VIDEO: Omicron Variant - Russia Checks Tourists Arriving from South Africa

Due to flight cancellations, Russians remaining in South Africa have arrived at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport. In footage shared by Russian media, people can be seen waiting in line for their testing.

Previously, it was reported that at least 500 Russian tourists were stranded in South Africa.

It is noteworthy that COVID-19 cases in South Africa have sharply increased since the emergence of the Omicron variant. According to The Guardian, the variant could soon become the dominant strain in the country. “The pace of increase is alarming,” says Dr. Michelle Groome from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa.

Earlier, the WHO reported that the number of new weekly cases of the virus in the African region has risen by 93% in the past week.

It should be noted that an increase in the number of coronavirus cases has also been recorded in the UAE and South Korea, where cases of the Omicron variant have also been detected.
