Can Those Infected with COVID-19 Get Infected with the Omicron Variant? WHO Responds
Preliminary data suggest that individuals previously infected with COVID-19 may have a higher risk of contracting the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus. This statement was made by the World Health Organization, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The WHO emphasized that more detailed information will be available in the "coming days and weeks." The organization confirmed that the current PCR tests can detect infections with the new variant.
Furthermore, the WHO had previously stated that the Omicron variant of the virus has not been sufficiently studied, and it is still too early to draw conclusions about whether it may be more dangerous than the Delta variant.
It is worth noting that the new strain was detected in countries in southern Africa, with cases reported in Israel as well. In response to the spread of the new variant, European countries have restricted air travel with African nations.
