Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Ararat Region: Law Enforcement Prevents Retaliation
On November 12, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred in the Ararat region. Around 19:20, a resident of Ararat, 50-year-old Vladik Yeranyan, ran over a pedestrian, 66-year-old Shoghik Arshakyan, while driving a VAZ 2106 vehicle at the beginning of the Voskentap-Vedi road.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the injured party was taken to the 'Ararat' Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries without regaining consciousness. The driver did not flee the scene and voluntarily presented himself to the Ararat police.
Several citizens gathered at the scene, who refused to speak on camera, mentioned, “If the police had not responded promptly, it was possible that the relatives of the deceased, who lived near the accident site, would have taken revenge on the driver and vandalized the vehicle. They only smashed the back window, but as soon as they saw the police vehicles approaching from a distance, they dispersed.”
A criminal case has been initiated based on the second part of Article 242 of the RA Criminal Code.
