VIDEO: Heavy Rain Expected in France, Residents Urged to Stay Home
In Marseille, rainfall recorded in just a few hours has reached the amount typically expected over two months. An unprecedented thunderstorm is anticipated in the coming hours. Residents are being urged not to leave their homes.
A high level of weather danger has been declared in six departments of southeastern France due to the risk of heavy rainfall and flooding. This was announced by the national meteorological service Meteo France on their Twitter account on October 4.
Starting at 12:00 PM, a maximum "red" alert will be issued in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. According to meteorologists, rainfall in that region is expected to reach between 200 to 240 millimeters during the day.
Meteo France notes that an improvement in weather conditions is only expected after the evening of October 4. Due to the bad weather, the administration of Aix-Marseille University, located in southern France, has announced the cancellation of classes on October 4.
The “orange” weather danger alert is already in effect in the departments of Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Var, Vaucluse, and Haute-Corse. Residents are advised by Meteo France to “regularly check information about the current weather situation and limit travel by vehicle,” TASS reports.
