Who Refused to Perform at the 30th Anniversary of Armenia's Independence
«Հրապարակ թերթը» գրում է․ We have already reported that the concert for the independence day was initially planned with a completely different program, truly colorful and in the style of ‘glorious variety’. However, on one hand, public outcry and on the other, many performers’ refusal to participate changed the organizers’ plans. Moreover, the initial scenario for the concert was created back in early August.
Representatives of «Domino Production» made a luxurious, colorful portfolio and visited potential participants to present their proposal. According to the initial program, the celebration was to be attended by Serj Tankian with his band, Arthur Meschan, Ruben Hakobyan, and Tigran Hekekyan’s “Little Singers”. However, a few days later it became clear that Tankian’s band would not come. Tankian promised to come alone at least but later stated that he couldn't even come alone. Meschan also refused to participate, citing that his voice was not in good condition. Hekekyan flatly rejected the offer on the spot. Hakobyan only changed his mind much later.
As a result, it was decided to fill the absence of well-known personalities with classical music and technical effects. Nevertheless, it remains unclear how over 2 million dollars were spent and who allocated the funds if claims are true that it did not come from the state budget.
