The Last American Service Member Leaves Afghanistan
The United States has completed its evacuation operations from Afghanistan. During a press briefing at the Pentagon, General Kenneth McKenzie, commander of U.S. Central Command, confirmed this to reporters.
On board the final military aircraft to leave Afghanistan were Commander of U.S. Forces in Kabul, Chris Donahue, and U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ross Wilson.
President Joe Biden expressed gratitude to American servicemen for executing an unprecedented operation that evacuated over 120,000 people in just 17 days.
It is worth noting that the Taliban had warned that the evacuation of foreign military personnel and diplomats from Afghanistan must be completed by August 31.
