The reigning Olympic champion Arthur Aleksanyan (97 kg) confidently began his title defense at the ongoing 32nd Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, competing in Greco-Roman wrestling.
The champion of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, three-time world champion, and five-time European champion, Aleksanyan faced 25-year-old Uzur Juzhubekov from Kyrgyzstan in the 1/8 finals, winning with a score of 4:1.
In the quarter-finals, Arthur Aleksanyan will compete against Finnish wrestler Arvi Savolainen.
