At Least 63 People Have Died from Heat in One U.S. State

At least 63 people have died from heat in the state of Oregon, USA. This was reported by the local newspaper Oregonian, citing the chief medical examiner of the state.

The Multnomah County, which includes the state's largest city, Portland, has reported that 45 individuals aged between 44 and 97 have died within the county’s borders. In all cases, hyperthermia or overheating was noted as the cause of death.

The county reminded that only 12 heat-related deaths occurred across the entire state between 2017 and 2019. For three consecutive days, record high temperatures have been recorded in the state for this time of year, with temperatures reaching 46.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, June 28. In Portland, daytime temperatures have exceeded 30 degrees Celsius, reported RIA Novosti.
