Obstructions to Electoral Campaign of Civil Contract Party Reported; Investigation Underway
On June 9, 2021, around 16:40, members of the "Civil Contract" party conducted a campaign in connection with the snap parliamentary elections set for June 20, 2021. During the campaign, at a gathering near 4 Kapanian Street in the Kanaker area of Yerevan, several individuals reportedly obstructed the electoral activities, resulting in a dispute among those present in the gathering and the campaigners, which escalated into a physical altercation.
Following the incident, a criminal case was opened at the Arabkir Division of the Yerevan City Police under the provisions of Article 149.1, Paragraphs 2, Points 3 and 4 of the Armenian Criminal Code on June 9, 2021. The case has been transferred to the Arabkir Investigation Division of the Yerevan Investigative Committee and is currently under review. An investigation is underway to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
Notification: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, following a legally binding court decision.
