Aivazyan's Resignation Surprises Marukyan

The resignation of Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazyan has surprised Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the "Bright Armenia" faction in the National Assembly. He made this statement during a briefing held in parliament today, noting that Aivazyan's intention was not apparent during the expanded meeting of the Security Council, which was attended by leaders of parliamentary factions.

"In general, there was no conversation related to him. The part that connected him was when the acting Prime Minister said, 'I instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs,' and the Minister of Foreign Affairs nodded—this is available in the live broadcast. In the remaining parts, there was nothing said, and I was surprised to learn later that he had resigned," said Marukyan.

The opposition faction leader also reminded that, given the current state of the state management system in Armenia, the law does not allow for the appointment of a new acting minister in place of the one who has submitted their resignation.

“This situation could put our country in a very complicated position,” Marukyan added, urging the government members to serve the state for another three weeks instead of leaving at such a critical moment, effectively leaving “that burden hanging in the air.”

It should be noted that the factions of the seventh convocation of the National Assembly are currently holding their last briefings as part of the existing parliament.
