The Area of Sisian Where Azerbaijanis Infiltrated is Closer to Yerevan Than Meghri, Says Mkhtiar Zakaryan
According to the newspaper "168 Hours", since May 12, enemy provocations have increased in the areas of Gekharkunik and Syunik along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. On May 26, the enemy fired shots in the Verin Shorzha area, resulting in the death of one Armenian contract serviceman. Following this incident, rumors circulated that there had also been gunfire in the Sisian region of Syunik. In an interview with 168.am, the Mayor of Meghri, Mkhtiar Zakaryan, stated that he could not comment on the situation in Sisian, but he noted that everything in Meghri is relatively well due to the Armenian servicemen and, to some extent, the Russian border guards.
“I would like to draw the public's attention to the fact that the Sisian area is closer to Yerevan than it is to Meghri. I am not saying this by chance; the public should pay attention when they talk about Syunik, they often also consider Meghri, but Meghri is farther from the mentioned Sisian area than Yerevan. This means that people in Yerevan may be more informed than those in Meghri,” concluded Mkhtiar Zakaryan.
It should be noted that on May 12, the enemy violated the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and moved forward several kilometers into the areas of Syunik and Gekharkunik, and they remain in those areas to this day. Several negotiations have been held in Syunik to persuade the enemy to withdraw, but to no avail. The leaders and residents of adjacent villages report that enemy soldiers have advanced with some maps and claim they have received orders from their superiors to advance, considering these areas as Azerbaijani territory.
