Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia

Since May 12, Azerbaijani military units have continued provocative actions in various directions, having penetrated the sovereign territory of Armenia. As a result of one of these actions, on the early morning of May 27, six servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces were surrounded and taken prisoner by Azerbaijani armed forces while performing engineering work in the border area of Gegharkunik province.

The provocations carried out by the Azerbaijani military-political leadership aim to further escalate the situation, which seriously threatens regional peace and stability. We strongly condemn the use of force by Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia and emphasize that the Azerbaijani military-political leadership bears full responsibility for all actions and consequences of the Azerbaijani armed forces.

The captured Armenian servicemen must be returned immediately and unconditionally.
