There is an Unprecedented Active and Trustworthy Political Dialogue Between Russia and Armenia: Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has no doubt that Armenian-Russian relations will continue to develop in the spirit of mutual trust, strategic partnership, and allied interaction. Lavrov made this statement in an interview with "Arguments and Facts," responding to a journalist's question about whether Russia has managed to maintain warm relations with Armenia, considering the unfavorable outcome for it in the Nagorno-Karabakh armed conflict.
“Our country is always ready to extend a hand to the fraternal Armenian people. The evidence of this is Russia’s, particularly President Vladimir Putin's, mediating efforts that led to the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh in the autumn of 2020 and initiated the process of resolving the situation in the region. Today, it can be said that the trilateral agreements between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, recorded in their statements of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021, are generally being implemented successfully. This specifically pertains to addressing the humanitarian and socio-economic consequences of the conflict and the unblocking of transport and economic ties in the South Caucasus. Russian support is highly valued by our Armenian friends,” Lavrov stated.
He also emphasized that relations between Russia and Armenia are not limited to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. There is an unprecedented active and trustworthy political dialogue between Russia and Armenia at the highest and other levels. “Just this year, our leaders have met twice and have had numerous phone conversations. My visit to Yerevan took place in early May. Inter-parliamentary visits are taking place. To overcome the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, Russia has supplied several tens of thousands of doses of the ‘Sputnik V’ vaccine to Armenia. We are discussing further support. We are successfully developing trade and economic ties, aided by the regular meetings of the co-chairs of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation,” Lavrov concluded.
