Who Benefits from Azerbaijani Actions?
Analysis from the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper indicates that the country preparing for elections has lost interest in this political event since last week. The reason is the incursions of the Azerbaijani army into the heights of Ishkhanasar in the Syunik province and subsequent events in the Gegharkunik province.
Sources from the Armenian Ministry of Defense insist that clearing this specific area is a matter of hours for the Armenian armed forces. There are also plans prepared for other scenarios. In general, our military believes that it will take years for Azerbaijan to consolidate and settle in the territories it gained after the 44-day war, and to make it possible for soldiers to serve or conduct operations there.
When asked if our army could successfully carry out operations, our interlocutor firmly stated that it certainly could, provided they are well-armed and not faced with an adversary comprised of five or six countries. He believes that facing Azerbaijan head-on would lead to victory once again.
On the other hand, our governmental sources express serious doubts and have credible information suggesting that Azerbaijan has moved forward with this action under the influence of a third party, with the aim of lowering Nikol Pashinyan's ratings to ensure he faces defeat in the elections. This means the government attributes boundary advancements and incidents to internal issues.
Moreover, members of the "My Step" faction are concerned that Pashinyan's opponents have already recorded certain successes, as polls indicate that around 60 percent of those wishing to participate in the elections were ready to vote for Pashinyan's political force, a figure that is expected to decrease significantly following the recent events.
However, everything is still ahead, as there is a month left until the snap elections. It is beyond doubt that Pashinyan will do everything necessary to intensify his rhetoric against the former leaders in order to restore his ratings.
