New Turn in Hovhannes Sahakyan's Case: Court Finds First Instance Conclusions Unlawful

The Appeals Criminal Court has overturned the decision made by the First Instance Court regarding the legality of Hovhannes Sahakyan's arrest.

The LEGIST legal team has received the decision from the RA Appeals Criminal Court, which pertains to the appeal filed by Hovhannes Sahakyan's lawyer, Karine Margaryan, against the decision concerning the examination of the "Legality of the Arrest" complaint.

The court upheld the lawyer's argument that there was no reasonable suspicion of a crime being committed at the time of Hovhannes Sahakyan's arrest. Based on the arguments presented by Karine Margaryan, the Appeals Criminal Court deemed the conclusions of the First Instance Court as unlawful and annulled the aforementioned decision.

It is noted for reference that during the pre-election period on June 5, 2026, Hovhannes Sahakyan's brief response to a journalist's question gained wide attention and has since been discussed or mentioned either directly or indirectly by the public.

Hovhannes Sahakyan was arrested on June 8, 2026, based on immediate reasonable suspicion of having committed a crime, just three days after the video was published.
